Can The Crow remake ever take flight in Hollywood? That’s the question that has plagued said reimagining for years, as Relativity’s horror/fantasy pic ricocheted from one director to another in what quickly became a truly torrid saga of false hope and non-starts.

It was during this time that Jack Huston, Luke Evans, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Bradley Cooper all came attached to the part of Eric Draven – a role that was originally brought to life by Brandon Lee all those years ago – at various stages, only to drop out before The Crow remake could garner a sense of momentum. And that’s before you even factor in Relativity’s financial woes, which resulted in the project uprooting for a new home at Davis Films, Highland Film Group, and Electric Shadow.

Between them, those three parties have pledged their combined support to the re-adaptation, and now, there may finally be a light at the end of the tunnel. That’s because The Tracking Board tells us that the reboot has landed at Sony, who’ve nabbed the rights to the property and are looking to make a franchise out of it (obviously). There’s no word on who’s attached in terms of talent, but it’s believed that Jason Momoa will remain in the lead role with Corin Hardy sticking to the director’s chair, as was the original plan. Beyond that though, details are scarce.

From what we understand, this new take on the source material will be a more faithful adaptation and with a distributor now locked down, we imagine that The Crow may finally – finally! – take flight. Then again, this isn’t the first time everything looked good to go only to fall apart unexpectedly. As such, we won’t get our hopes up just yet. Still, this is an exciting new development for the reboot and hopefully, the stars will align this time so that Eric Draven may have his moment in the spotlight again.
