The British Board of Film Classification has unearthed a listing for Insidious: Chapter 4, revealing the sequel’s subtitle to be The Last Key. But what could it mean?

Thankfully, it won’t be too much longer before we have some footage to mull over; Trailer Track is reporting that The Last Key‘s inaugural teaser, which will likely screen before It this coming weekend, is officially in the can. Clocking in at only 61 seconds in length, this is very much a first-look promo for Insidious: Chapter 4, which is just as well considering modern-day horror films have a tendency to showcase too much, too soon via extensive marketing campaigns.

Behind the lens for this one is Adam Robitel (The Taking of Deborah Logan), who has been faced with the somewhat tricky challenge of delivering a competent successor to Chapter 3, after it conjured up a box office tally in excess of $112 million two years ago – on a budget of only $10 million, no less. That low-budget, high-profit formula has been paid off dividends for the folks at Blumhouse Productions, and all involved will no doubt be pulling for another horror hit come 2018.

Set some years before the events of the Insidious series, Adam Robitel has already cast four actors in the form of Kirk Acevedo (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Bruce Davison (The Lords of Salem), Spencer Locke (Resident Evil: Extinction), and Caitlin Gerard.

Story details are few and far between, but the all-too-brief logline does confirm that The Last Key is “set years before the events from the previous films and follows Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye), in her youth in New Mexico, that begins to be haunted by malevolent and demonic spirits in their own house.”

Initially scheduled for release this Halloween, which would have meant Insidious: Chapter 4 competing against the likes of Jigsaw, Cult of Chucky and Leatherface, Adam Robitel and Co. will unlock The Last Key and invite moviegoers back to The Further on January 5th, 2018.
