Fandango Survey Crowns Thor: Ragnarok As Fall’s Most-Anticipated Movie

A survey conducted by digital network Fandango has crowned Thor: Ragnarok as fall's most-anticipated movie - ahead of Justice League, no less.

Forget the so-called “fight of the century” for a very brief moment; Fandango has crowned Thor: Ragnarok as fall’s most-anticipated movie – ahead of Justice League, no less.

The two November blockbusters dominated the company’s recent survey, though it was ultimately Taika Waititi’s super-stylish tentpole that occupied the #1 spot. Fandango’s poll asked 1,000 movie buffs to name their most-anticipated movies of the next three months. Ragnarok and Justice League came in at first and second, respectively, while the top 5 was rounded out by Blade Runner 2049, Kingsman: The Golden Circle and It (our review), the latter of which is due to haunt theaters tomorrow, September 8th.

Other notable winners include Most Anticipated Actor (Chris Hemsworth), Most Anticipated Actress (Gal Gadot), Most Anticipated Comedy (A Bad Moms Christmas) and Most Anticipated Family Movie (Coco).

It’s also worth keeping in mind that Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the other 2017 blockbuster cramming up the pipeline, isn’t due to arrive until December 15th and is therefore ineligible for Fandango’s statistics.

What’s more, just because Thor: Ragnarok ranked higher than Justice League on Fandango’s survey doesn’t necessarily mean that it’ll perform better than the DC tentpole come November – or vice versa. There are many more variables in play than a fan-oriented survey, but it makes for interesting reading nonetheless.

To coincide with the results, Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis released the following statement:

Moviegoers always look forward to the fall season when some of the year’s best films debut. This year there’s an especially diverse slate full of a little something for everyone. ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ claims the most anticipated title, thanks to the overwhelming momentum and excitement the Marvel Studios brand has built up over the years, plus fans can’t wait to see more of Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, as well as Cate Blanchett and Tessa Thompson in new-to-the-franchise roles.

Thor: Ragnarok is pegged for a release on November 3rd, with Justice League expected to follow suit on November 17th.
