If you read the reports, or were lucky enough to watch a leaked copy before it was removed, you’ll know that the Avengers: Infinity War trailer screened at D23 and SDCC featured Thor crashing into the Milano and encountering the Guardians of the Galaxy. While that crossover was exciting enough, it turns out that the God of Thunder could meet the galaxy’s protectors earlier than anticipated. Namely, in this November’s Thor: Ragnarok.
With the movie’s arrival drawing ever closer, various sites are releasing set reports from their visit to the production last year. While there’s been a whole host of interesting details to come from that, something that’s generating a lot of discussion is a piece of concept art which featured the Milano, Star-Lord’s trusty spaceship, in a scrapyard on the planet Sakaar.
Even if the Guardians don’t appear in the film themselves, the inclusion of their ship does suggest a juicy bit of foreshadowing for Thor and the Guardians’ union in Infinity War. For one, it could explain how the Guardians get their ship back after leaving it on Berhert in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
When Screen Rant spoke to Ragnarok‘s producer Brad Winderbaum during the recent set visit, he was cagey on the subject of whether the Guardians would feature in the film, but did seem to suggest that there would be some overlap.
“We’re definitely leaning into Jack [Kirby, legendary comics artist] more heavily than Guardians. There are elements of Guardians that will work their way into our film, both stylistically and narratively. In the sense that, like all the Earthbound heroes feel like they’re living and breathing in the same air, certainly now that we’re in space it feels, in a very MCU way, that we’re living and breathing in the same air.”
Meanwhile, /Film have also reported that a different piece of concept art showed Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster meeting with the Broker, the shifty salesman that Peter Quill attempted to sell the Orb to in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Not only that, but we’ve already learned that the Grandmaster is the brother of Benicio del Toro’s Collector, who we met in GotG (after a brief cameo in Thor: The Dark World).
While we don’t have any concrete evidence that the Guardians themselves will appear in the upcoming threequel, we can practically 100% confirm that elements of the GotG movies, potentially even supporting characters, will feature. Just how far the crossover goes, though, will be revealed when Thor: Ragnarok hits cinemas on November 3rd.
