Ruben Fleischer and Tom Hardy aren’t ready to unleash the alien symbiote just yet.

Omega Underground has unearthed new production details for Venom that slate Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff for a production start on October 23rd – six weeks after the original target. New York and Atlanta have still been earmarked as the two primary locations, while OU’s report suggests the sheer number of projects shooting in Atlanta (see: Avengers 4, Ant-Man and the WaspGodzilla: King of the Monsters), coupled with the heightened demand for skilled crew members, is the main reason behind this last-minute delay.

A late-October start date will no doubt raise some question marks over the film’s current release date (October 5th, 2018), but we’re quietly confident that all involved will still be able to make the deadline. Besides, Venom is yet to cast its Cletus Kasady/Carnage and Ann Weying, so there’s still some work to be done before the cameras begin rolling.

Per Omega Underground:

Last we reported, Riz Ahmed, Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones), Mathias Schoenarts and former Doctor Who actor Matt Smith had all come into contention to play a “major Marvel character” in Sony’s 2018 spinoff. All signs currently point to Ahmed being the frontrunner to join Venom opposite Tom Hardy (Dunkirk), though without an official announcement at the time of writing, chalk that up as innocent conjecture.

Behind the scenes, we know Ruben Fleischer will be directing from a script penned by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, who recently dabbled with rip-roaring adventure thanks to their contribution to the Dwayne Johnson-led yarn, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Expect that one to trail Star Wars: The Last Jedi this December.

As things stand, Ruben Fleischer’s Venom movie remains on course for an October 5th, 2018 release.
