Family Feud? Tyrese Gibson Calls Out The Rock Over Fast And Furious Spinoff

Looks like there's another feud brewing int he Fast Family, and it all stems from Universal and Dwayne Johnson's plans for a Fast and Furious spinoff.

Forget Diesel and Johnson; there’s another potential feud brewing within the so-called Fast Family, and it can seemingly be traced back to Universal’s Fast and Furious spinoff involving Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham).

As one of the most prolific stars in all of Hollywood – Ballers, Jumanji, and Black Adam…to name but three – Johnson is pushing full steam ahead on the Hobbs/Shaw offshoot, much to the chagrin of Fast co-star, Tyrese Gibson. Earlier this week, the former took to Instagram to post a typically candid shot of himself toiling away on “productive meetings and big business deals,” and it was here where Gibson took the opportunity to air his frustration in public.

The comment is fairly damning, too, claiming that Dwayne Johnson is largely spearheading a Fast and Furious spinoff on his own accord. It’s since been pulled, but not before Instagram account ‘The Shade Room’ captured a screenshot. It’s embedded below, and all but confirms that alleged feud between Gibson and Johnson.

Per Instagram:

As you’ll no doubt recall, production on The Fate of the Furious was rocked earlier this year because of a major bust-up between Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson, after the latter purportedly pushed to include a post-credits stinger to tee up his forthcoming spinoff. But subsequent reports claimed that Diesel, who holds a producing credit on all Fast films, stood firm, forcing Universal to scrap any tentative plans for an end-credits stinger.

When it comes to this latest squabble, though, it’s unclear as yet whether Gibson’s comments will have much of an effect on the Hobbs/Shaw spinoff. One thing’s for sure: Universal will hope both actors settle their differences, lest any tension spoils plans for Fast 9 and Fast 10.

Meanwhile, The Fate of the Furious roared into theaters earlier this year and has since collected $1.16 billion in box office receipts. That’s a staggering total, and one that will no doubt fuel umpteen spinoff movies beyond the final two chapters – namely Fast 9 (2019) and Fast 10 (2021) – in the Toretto saga. A Hobbs/Shaw buddy-cop movie, anyone?
