Mark Ruffalo Deems Hulk Solo Movie A Pipe Dream Because Universal Still Hold Film Rights

Per Collider, Mark Ruffalo has once again addressed the issue of a Hulk solo movie, claiming that a spinoff is unlikely, but not insurmountable.

The fabled Hulk solo movie has been rendered a pipe dream by Mark Ruffalo…again.

Ever since he first climbed aboard the MCU, replacing Edward Norton in the process, Ruffalo has been badgered with questions about a potential Bruce Banner standalone pic, but at least for now, the song remains the same: Universal is still in possession of the Hulk film rights, and there’s currently no sign of Marvel Studios brokering a deal a la Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Granted, the red tape surrounding Marvel’s Jade Giant is a little different in the sense that Universal holds distribution rights for the Hulk, and has likely placed an exorbitant price tag on them. There is always a slight possibility that Marvel will pay hand over giant green fist though, and while speaking to Collider, Ruffalo himself did hint that the issues swirling around Hulk aren’t insurmountable.

That’s still Universal’s property… Now, I don’t think that’s insurmountable, by the way, but I don’t know where it’s going from here for me.

This latest status report echoes Ruffalo’s previous comments on the matter, after the actor told those in attendance at San Diego Comic-Con 2017 that a Hulk standalone pic may never come to fruition.

I just want to make one thing perfectly clear today, a standalone Hulk movie will never happen, because Universal has the rights to the standalone Hulk movie and for some reason, they don’t know how to play well with Marvel, and they don’t want to make money.

The Hulk solo film is still a pipe dream, sadly, and it’ll likely remain that way for some time yet. Thankfully though, Mark Ruffalo’s Jade Giant will be back on our screens later this year via Thor: Ragnarok (November 3rd), while there’s also the all-consuming Avengers: Infinity War (May 4th, 2018) to look forward to.
