Matthew Vaughn Confirms Man Of Steel 2 Talks

Now that the DC Extended Universe is in full swing, all we can do is sit back and wait to see which of our favorite superheroes Warner Bros. will bring to the big screen next. Obviously, they're pretty keen on Batman, preparing a new film for the Dark Knight himself, while also mulling over their options when it comes to the likes of Nightwing and the Joker. But what of their other big gun, Superman?

Well, we do know that Big Blue is set to appear this November in Justice League, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed when it comes to Man of Steel 2 seeing the light of day. As you may recall, Matthew Vaughn’s name has been in the mix of possible directors to helm the prospective sequel since March of this year. Having directed some of the best comic book movies of this decade in the form of X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass, one would naturally think he’d be a solid choice for the gig, right?

While nothing’s set in stone, we were given a ray of hope when Vaughn himself confirmed that talks have taken place when doing press for Kingsman: The Golden Circle:

“I am planning another Kingman, I’ve written the treatment and some of the scenes…I don’t know what I’m going to do next but I have had chats about Superman, I love Superman.”

And even though I personally liked Zack Snyder’s solo Superman film, I have to admit that it couldn’t hurt to go in a more uplifting direction in potential followups. As it turns out, Vaughn is of the same mind:

“I think that’s the one thing not to do with Superman, trying to do the serious The Dark Knight version. Superman is about color and fun, or it should be, for me.”

Adding to that, there’s a reason that the character of Superman has endured for more than three quarters of a century. No matter how anyone may feel about him or recent films he’s been featured in, we can all agree that there will always be a handsome profit to be made from a timeless icon and I, for one, hope that Warner Bros. get it done before long.

Furthermore, many saw Man of Steel as Superman’s equivalent of Batman Begins and lamented the fact that he’s yet to get his own counterpart to The Dark Knight, as it were. Having countless comic books to act as source material and one of the deepest rogues galleries around, there’s no shortage of possibilities as to what another sequel could bring.
