Marvel Planning Family Friendly Power Pack Movie For Phase 4

Marvel fans may remember that the studio revealed a list of movies that they planned to make after 2008's Iron Man launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While many of them came to fruition, some ideas fell by the wayside. A few moved over to the TV division - Luke Cage, Runaways - while some completely disappeared - a movie based on jungle man Ka-Zar. One such project was Power Pack, based on a quartet of super-powered kids.

Marvel fans may remember that the studio revealed a list of movies they planned to make after 2008’s Iron Man launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While many of them came to fruition, some ideas fell by the wayside. A few moved over to the TV division – Luke Cage, Runaways – while some completely disappeared – a movie based on jungle man Ka-Zar. One such project was Power Pack, based on a quartet of super-powered kids.

According to The Hashtag Show though, Marvel Studios is now renewing its interest in the property. Their unnamed source tells them that it’s early days, as a release date has yet to be assigned, but things are beginning to move forward. Producer Jonathan Schwartz has apparently been given “executive oversight” on the project and considering his history working with director James Gunn on the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, it seems likely that Power Pack will share some of that franchise’s humour and heart. THS says their source has also told them the movie would be “Spy-Kids-like,” referring to Robert Rodriguez’s 2001 family film.

Created in 1984, the Power Pack consists of four siblings – Alex, Julie, Jack and Katie Power – with ages ranging from 5 to 12. Granted superpowers by a dying alien, each developed separate abilities. Alex can control gravity, Julie can fly, Jack can alter his own density and Katie can shoots balls of energy. Basically, the group are like Fantastic Four Jr., so you can see why Marvel would be interested in bringing them to the MCU, what with 20th Century Fox owning the rights to the First Family. Something tells us the Power Pack would be aged up to teenagers in a movie, though, after the success of the high school-set Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Still, we shouldn’t get carried away with this news, as it’s far from confirmed. Seeing as the project was once on the slate, however, it does seem plausible that Marvel would reinvigorate the Power Pack movie to give the MCU some fresh blood in Phase 4. For now, however, we’ll have to wait and see if this pans out.
