Word comes by way of Rian Johnson’s official Instagram feed, where the writer-director posted a suitably epic selfie to announce that post-production is now complete. The black-and-white photo, embedded below, came bearing the caption: “Aaaand that’s a wrap on the hardest working post-production team in the galaxy. Going to miss sitting in dark rooms with these goobers.”

Johnson has been fairly active on Twitter when it comes to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, relaying pics from the edit bay along with a subtle tease of the sequel’s opening crawl. Yes, after Lucasfilm did away with the franchise’s iconic opener for Rogue One – part of an overarching plan to draw a line between the anthology movies (see: Han Solo) and the core Skywalker saga – the crawl will be back, back, back on December 15th. But considering the Powers That Be have painted The Last Jedi‘s logo in a blood-red color, will the crawl follow suit? Time will tell.

Here’s that status report, directly from the horse’s mouth:

Angled as the second mainline instalment in Disney’s rebooted trilogy, The Last Jedi will be followed by the untitled Episode IX in 2019. Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow was once in control of the conclusive Star Wars pic, before the relationship between director and studio allegedly deteriorated.

In his stead, The Force Awakens helmer J.J. Abrams will steer Episode IX toward its newly-unveiled December 2019 release date. That quick changeover hasn’t gone down well with everyone, though, after it emerged that Paramount Pictures is reportedly none too pleased with Abrams’ decision, not to mention that petition kicking around calling for the filmmaker’s dismissal. Neither Disney nor Lucasfilm have responded to the latter.

A finished cut of Star Wars: The Last Jedi now exists somewhere in the vaults of Lucasfilm (remember, breathe!), and we’ll be able to see Rian Johnson’s vision light up the big screen on December 15th.
