Much has been made about Superman’s role in Justice League. Given that he died at the end of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, perhaps the biggest thing people are wondering about is how exactly he’ll be resurrected. While that’s something we probably won’t find out until the film actually hits theaters, there are a few things about the character that have been heavily rumored throughout production. One of which is the fact that he’ll be donning his famous black suit at some point.
First teased by Henry Cavill last year, fans of the comics will know that the Man of Steel originally wore the costume back in “The Death of Superman.” In that arc, he was killed by Doomsday and upon his revival, he sported the black suit with a longer hairstyle. From what we’ve heard so far, it sounds like Justice League might be taking some inspiration from the famous storyline and that includes having the hero wear the alternate threads. Though again, that has in no way been confirmed just yet.
However, it is looking more and more likely and while we still don’t have any photos from the film itself to prove that this will indeed happen, the fan art depicting Cavill in his black threads continues to hit the web at an alarming rate. The latest piece comes to us from Instagram user Gabriel Rock and can be seen down in the gallery below, along with some other interesting mock ups of how the actor may look should he end up changing costumes.
Again, we can’t say with 100% certainty that the black suit will show up in the pic, but at this point, it’s all but confirmed, and if that is indeed the case, then it means we should expect a much more grim and dark version of the hero. Could he possibly end up fighting against some of his fellow League members, before eventually joining them to help stop Steppenwolf? Perhaps, but don’t expect to learn anything further until the film arrives, as Warner Bros. has been keeping the Man of Steel out of most of the marketing material thus far.
With just under two months to go now before Justice League touches down in theatres, we should find out soon enough whether or not Supes will get his iconic black suit. Until then, though, feel free to continue speculating in the comments section down below!
