Despite recent rumors, it’s been confirmed that Sex and the City 3 is not going to happen, and the news comes straight from the horse’s mouth (uh, so to speak). Recent rumblings had suggested the production might be moving forward, but in a statement to Extra magazine, star Sarah Jessica Parker categorically put the kibosh on the story, saying:

“It’s over. We’re not doing it. I’m disappointed. We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story. It’s not just disappointing that we don’t get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting another movie.”

I mean, no offence to fans, but I’m rejoicing at this news. For reasons I don’t want to get into right now, I had to watch Sex and the City 2 in theatres, and it was one of the worst cinematic experiences of my life. Working from the concept that the girls go to the Middle East and get into various unlikely scrapes, the result was a head-scratchingly, pukeworthy and quasi-racist nightmare that never seemed to end. Looking back, I note that the film’s release almost exactly coincides with the founding of ISIS – I don’t think that’s a coincidence.

But, while this particular cinematic bullet appears to have been deftly dodged, it’d still be possible for HBO to resurrect the show for a further TV season, though at least I probably won’t have to watch it. Fortunately, Parker is currently busy with Divorce on the same network, which has just been renewed for a second season. So breathe easy folks, looks like we’re out of the woods for now.

We’ll give you advance warning if Sex and the City 3 pops back up on our radar, but let’s hope that it won’t.
