The Simpsons are getting ready to celebrate Halloween in style this year with their 28th annual Treehouse of Horror special. As fans will know, the show’s Halloween-themed episodes are always a highlight and this one should be no different. Set to air on Sunday, October 22nd, Fox has now detailed exactly what to expect, and it sounds like we’re in for a real treat.
For starters, here’s the official synopsis, which teases possession and cannibalism.
“Maggie becomes possessed by an ancient demon, Lisa discovers a creepy/perfect version of her family in an alternate universe and Homer cannibalizes himself.”
Diving a little deeper, we can tell you that two figures from the world of horror will guest star, as both Ben Daniels, who can be seen on Fox’s The Exorcist, and director William Friedkin, who was responsible for the 1973 classic upon which that aforementioned show is based, are involved. Daniels is set to voice an Irish priest, while Friedkin plays Dr. Kenneth Humphries.
Sticking to the guest stars, it’s also been revealed that Neil Gaiman is on board to provide the voice of Snowball V in the segment where Lisa discovers the alternate universe. Apparently, it’ll parody Coraline, a film based on Gaiman’s novel of the same name.
Finally, for the last portion of the episode, world famous chef Mario Batali will play himself, and judging by the photos we have here, it seems he’ll be partly responsible for Homer’s self-cannibalization. What exactly leads to that is unknown, but color us excited to find out.
The Simpsons will return for its annual Treehouse of Horror episode later this month and judging by what we’ve learned of it so far, it sounds like fans are in for another spooky and entertaining outing from the always reliable show.
