For two years on the trot, Ash Vs. Evil Dead laid claim to Starz’s Halloween slate, serving up a delightfully over-the-top dish of blood, guts, and chainsaw-wielding maniacs.
With season 3, though, the network has shuffled its deck in such a way that the horror-comedy series, one rustled up by Sam Raimi, Ivan Raimi, and Tom Spezialy, has now relocated to winter – February 25th, 2018, to be specific – for its third year on the airwaves. Exactly how Ash Vs. Evil Dead will fare in this new slot is up for question, but with Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) now being championed as a “humanity-saving hometown hero,” we imagine Deadites across the globe will be tuning in come February.
Indeed, as part of the show’s presence at New York Comic Con this past weekend, Campbell told those in attendance that season 3 will be “really, really different” – so different, in fact, that we’ll all be picking our jaws up off the floor. Buckle up, folks, things are about to get hairy for Ash and the gang.
I will allude to the ending of this upcoming season in that…everything will be different. Really different. Really, really different. You’re gonna fucking pick your jaw up off the floor a the end of the season. I wish I could tell you because I’d love to see your jaws drop right now.
Campbell was speaking as part of a Q&A session, one in which an NYCC attendee asked Dana DeLorenzo about the chances of Ash Vs. Evil Dead revisiting Medieval times a la Army of Darkness. DeLorenzo answered that question with another question (“can we?”), before Campbell stepped in to tease season 3’s grand finale.
On a more general note, here’s the official synopsis for Starz’s next chapter in the Deadite saga:
The third season finds Ash’s status in Elk Grove, Michigan has changed from murderous urban legend to humanity-saving hometown hero. When Kelly witnesses a televised massacre with Ruby’s fingerprints all over it, she returns with a new friend to warn Ash and Pablo that evil isn’t done with them yet. Blood is thicker than water in the battle of good vs Evil Dead!
Also starring Ray Santiago, Dana DeLorenzo and Lucy Lawless, Ash Vs. Evil Dead will be back on our screens on February 25th, 2018.
