The top-secret title of Avengers 4 isn’t so much a spoiler as it is Marvel’s way of keeping the attention firmly on 2018’s Infinity War.

At least, that’s according to Kevin Feige, who spoke to Screen Rant as part of the ongoing press tour for Thor: Ragnarok. After discussing what’s next for Marvel’s mighty Norse god, who’s currently riding the crest of a wave ahead of November 3rd, the conversation turned toward the studio’s upcoming slate, and specifically, Avengers 4, a sequel that’s been a complete mystery ever since it was first announced.

Joe and Anthony Russo’s super-sized blockbuster is still lensing on the streets of Atlanta – word is principal photography is beginning to round the final corner – though it seems all that talk of the Avengers 4 title being a direct spoiler for the events and indeed ending of Infinity War was a little overblown.

But don’t just take our word for it. Here’s what Kevin Feige had to say when asked about the level of secrecy surrounding Marvel’s fourth Avengers movie:

I think some of that has been blown out of proportion. We do want the focus to be on Infinity War for now.

Talk about a curveball. Granted, you can’t fault Feige’s reasoning; Marvel Studios still has five big-name movies to launch before the arrival of Avengers 4 (see: Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp and Captain Marvel), so any form of promotion for the sequel formerly known as Infinity War – Part 2 would only be a disservice to the films preceding it.

Expect Thanos to cast a shadow over planet Earth and spark a battle for the ages on May 4th, 2018, before the conclusive Avengers 4 debuts in 2019.
