The Hulk’s Three-Film Arc Will Deep Dive Into The Relationship Between Banner And His Raging Alter-Ego

Beginning with Thor: Ragnarok in November, Marvel is about to deliver a three-film arc for the Incredible Hulk, and here Kevin Feige teases what's in store.

Though Mark Ruffalo and the Powers That Be have quietly played down the notion of a standalone Hulk movie (it’s a pipe dream, apparently), Marvel is rustling up the next best thing: a three-film arc that begins with the launch of Thor: Ragnarok in November.

Indeed, Ruffalo’s Jade Giant is set to feature quite prominently in the imminent threequel, which is hardly surprising when you consider that Ragnarok was originally pitched as a buddy cop movie largely set in space – Sakaar, to be specific, which will play host to the fight of the century in three weeks’ time.

Looking further afield, and it’s understood that three-film arc will begin to unfold across Infinity War and its untitled sequel, Avengers 4, which will seemingly deliver a fitting conclusion to Marvel’s Phase 3 come 2019. But when it comes to Hulk’s next steps, Screen Rant recently caught up with Kevin Feige to discuss what lies ahead for Mark Ruffalo’s hulking green rage monster.

And so, after discussing all things Ragnarok and the overarching MCU, Feige addressed the immediate future of Hulk, and how that aforementioned ‘trilogy’ will delve deep into the relationship between Bruce Banner and his monstrous alter-ego.

Anything’s possible. It is something when we were talking to Mark about this movie and trying to get him excited and getting him to agree to be in this movie, I did pitch to him a potential, sort of three movie arc for the character starting with this and that is what we ended up doing. Now, I won’t say where it goes, but it’s the continuing evolution of the relationship between Banner and Hulk and you see a side of it here. There’s a great line. He [Banner] says, “it’s different this time, usually it feels like we both have a hand on the wheel, but this time he was driving and I was locked in the trunk.” Are they ever going to be able to resolve that?

And it all begins with the release of Thor: Ragnarok on November 3rd. It’s set to herald a quartet of “very unique and very different” movies from Marvel Studios, which only has us all the more excited for the back-to-back launch of Infinity War and its untitled sequel in 2018 and 2019, respectively.
