New Video Reveals What Happened To Darth Maul After Episode I

Despite only featuring in The Phantom Menace, Darth Maul has to be one of the most celebrated Star Wars villains ever. He turned out to be so popular, in fact, that the fandom decided that he was too good to stay dead after Obi-Wan Kenobi chopped him in half on Naboo. That's why various books, comics and TV series have sought to bring the demonic looking horn-head back to life over the years.

That’s why various books, comics and TV series have sought to bring the demonic looking horn-head back to life over the years.

Maul’s is a complicated story though, one that crosses multiple timelines and could swamp even the most knowledgeable Star Wars fan. Thankfully, then, Movie Web has got you covered with this new recap video that details Darth Maul’s entire biography, pulling info from every medium that’s out there. Naturally, this results in a fairly hefty history, as the video clocks in at just under 20 minutes.

For the sake of relevance, the recap follows the modern Star Wars canon only, disregarding the decades’ worth of spinoff material that was rechristened as the Legends universe when Disney took control of Lucasfilm. There’s still enough known about Maul to fill a whole trilogy of movies, though.

As you can see above, the video explores his origins as a Zabrak from the planet Dathomir to his apprenticeship under Darth Sidious to his resurrection with the help of some cybernetic legs. Last but not least, as Star Wars Rebels viewers know, Maul met his final end on Tatooine, once again slain by Obi-Wan.

Even though Rebels seemed to wrap up the villain’s story for good, it’s likely that new gaps in his life will still be found to exploit and fill in over time. Fans are hoping that he could even appear in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi solo film as well, which is being directed by Stephen Daldry and will hopefully star Ewan McGregor. If he does, the producers will no doubt have their work cut out for them trying to figure out where it fits within Maul’s very busy timeline.
