Will The Dark Knight Rises Feature The Riddler?

I thought we were pretty much done with The Dark Knight Rises rumors. The film is well into production and like most fans, I felt that it was safe to assume that if we hadn't heard about it by now, then it wasn't happening. Well, it looks like we were wrong. Those pesky Riddler rumors are starting to surface again and this time the perpetrator is Hypable, who claims that the Riddler will indeed appear in the film.

I thought we were pretty much done with The Dark Knight Rises rumors. The film is well into production and like most fans, I felt that it was safe to assume that if we hadn’t heard about it by now, then it wasn’t happening.

Well, it looks like we were wrong. Those pesky Riddler rumors are starting to surface again and this time the perpetrator is Hypable, who claim that The Riddler will indeed appear in the film.

Their story states that they saw an official casting sheet for the film and it included the name Edward Nygma, which is The Riddler’s true identity. Now, firstly, this is in no way confirmed and it could just be the same leaked casting sheet that we saw a year ago, which initially sparked rumors of The Riddler.

Also, the casting sheet is apparently from April, which is around the time that it was announced that Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be joining the cast. Initially, people thought he was going to take on the part of The Riddler, until the studio confirmed that he was actually going to be playing John Blake.

All that being said, Screen Rant points out something interesting. Marion Cotillard is playing Miranda Tate in the film, that’s confirmed. But, as many people know, there are serious rumors and speculation going around that Tate is actually a cover for Cotillard’s true role, that of Ra’s al Ghul’s daughter, Talia al Ghul. So, Screen Rant thinks that maybe, just maybe, John Blake may be a cover for The Riddler. It’s an interesting theory and one that has me thinking.

While Christopher Nolan has denied any existence of The Riddler in his film, I wouldn’t entirely rule this one out. Honestly, I’d love to see JGL in the role and I think it would make for an excellent surprise if his John Blake turned out to actually be Edward Nygma/The Riddler. From day one, I was hoping that the Riddler would show up and for now, I’m still going to remain cautiously optimistic on this one. It could just be a massive rumor but I’ll hope for the best.

What do you think? Will we be seeing a surprise villain in The Dark Knight Rises?
