Josh Brolin Hints At When X-Force May Start Filming

Although the X-Men have been no strangers to the silver screen since their first film debuted back in 2000, it sure did take a while for the franchise to expand beyond the mainline movies and Wolverine spinoffs - but at least it has. Really, if a studio were to be lucky enough to have any Marvel property under their umbrella, it's this one, because the X-Men mythos truly is a universe unto itself.

For some time now, we’ve been hearing rumblings of there being an X-Force movie in the works, but it’s unfortunately taken its sweet time in getting off the ground. Much to our delight, though, Fox managed to land Drew Goddard as director, so we’re more than likely off to the races.

Still, there is a bit of a journey that lies ahead, as a major piece of the puzzle that comes in the form of Josh Brolin’s Cable will be first introduced in 2018’s Deadpool 2, which’ll serve as a springboard to X-Force itself. And while many moviegoers are no doubt anticipating the Merc with a Mouth’s next outing, it’s hard not to look ahead to this bold ensemble piece.

Obviously, we’re all wondering when X-Force will go in front of the lens, and now, Brolin himself has given us a decent idea as to when that’ll happen.

“I think [X-Force films] sometime next year or soon thereafter. It depends. It all depends. It depends on how Deadpool 2 does, but I don’t think that’s a make or break kind of deal. Drew Goddard is already involved in it. He’s into it now. I know he and Ryan were meeting. I’ve met him once, and so this is all kind of going ahead.

How it goes ahead, I know that they’re preparing, and I know that it’s something that I’m set to do. When it happens they’re going to put it as fast as they can. I think Drew Goddard is doing his movie right now and then once he’s kind of wrapped up with that and this movie comes out I think we’ll be ready to start the other one.”

Quite frankly, none of us are expecting the sequel to the most successful R-rated movie of all time to fail at the box office, so it’s really a matter of when. It stands to reason that Fox will want another X-Men related movie to roll out in 2019 aside from Gambit, thus we find Brolin’s assumption that production on X-Force should commence sometime in 2018 to be wholly believable. As always, watch this space for more.
