Celebrate Halloween Early With It’s Opening Scene; New Line Adaptation Expanding To 2,500 More Screens

Watch as the young, unassuming Georgie falls into the clutches of Pennywise in It's opening scene, which has arrived online just in time for Halloween.

Almost two months have passed since Pennywise first sunk his teeth into the global box office and still, New Line’s It reboot continues to print money.

One glance at the box office charts will tell you that the Stephen King adaptation – arguably the best of the bunch – has grossed $320 million in North America, which makes for a grand total of $653 million worldwide. Not bad for an R-rated horror pic anchored by a cast of relative unknowns.

It’s a testimony to Andy and Barbara Muschietti – not to mention the young cast – that It exceeded all expectations to become one of 2017’s greatest hits, and to celebrate that historic feat, Fandango has released that intense opening scene in which the young, unassuming Georgie falls into the clutches of Pennywise. Not only that, but It is expanding to 2,500 more screens this coming weekend in honor of the Halloween season.

Here’s what Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis had to say:

As one of the year’s greatest success stories, IT is still going strong at theaters with repeat customers and first-time moviegoers making their plans to see it on Halloween weekend. IT continues to wow moviegoers because it delivers a healthy dose of ’80s nostalgia, horror, humor, romance and adventure.

And in light of that record-shattering performance, the Powers That Be have gone ahead and issued the green light on It: Chapter Two, which will revisit the Losers Club 27 years after the fact.

True to Stephen King’s source material, it’ll be a much darker film than its ’80s-tinged predecessor, as it begins to poke and prod into the mind of Pennywise the Dancing Clown. That’s something Bill SkarsgÃ¥rd touched on in a previous interview, stating:

The second one will be the adult story. And I think the right way to do it is to make that movie actively different. … I think there might be worth exploring sort of the psychological aspects of horror, but also maybe the sort of cosmological existence of this being. What is he, and where does he come from?

Expect It: Chapter Two to deep dive into Pennywise’s cosmic origins on September 6th, 2019.
