Listen To A Track From Danny Elfman’s Justice League Score

Even though Junkie XL is a fantastic composer in his own right, I'm reasonably certain that not many fans were up in arms when Danny Elfman was announced as being his replacement as composer on Justice League a few months back. After all, Elfman was responsible for the music heard in Batman and Batman Returns, both of which remain two of the best superhero soundtracks to this day, at least in my opinion. But, if you need a little more assurance, know that his resume also includes heavy hitters in the genre such as Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Hulk and Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

Still, there may be some of you out there that need more convincing, so it’s quite fortunate that a sample of the film’s score has now found its way online. Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we’re able to listen to the third track, “Hero’s Theme,” in full, and hear the master at work. Really, it’s hard to get any more majestic or epic than a piece such as this.

Furthermore, we can’t help but speculate who this’ll be applied to. Naturally, one would think it’d mark the team’s first coming together, but it’s important to note that the title is “Hero’s Theme,” not “Heroes’ Theme.” Thus, we’re led to believe this was written for one specific character.

But before we proceed any further, check out the full tracklist below:

“Everybody Knows” — Sigrid

The Justice League Theme — Logos

Hero’s Theme

Batman on the Roof

Enter Cyborg

Wonder Woman Rescue

Hippolyta’s Arrow

The Story of Steppenwolf

The Amazon Mother Box

Aquaman in Atlantis

Then There Were Three

The Tunnel Fight

The World Needs Superman

Spark of The Flash

Friends and Foes

Justice League United

Home

Anti-Hero’s Theme

“Come Together” — Gary Clark Jr. and Junkie XL

“Icky Thump” — The White Stripes

The Tunnel Fight (Full Length Bonus Track)

The Final Battle (Full Length Bonus Track)

Mother Russia (Bonus Track)

Now that we’ve had a moment to look that over, it’s hard not to ponder which of those will announce the return of Superman. As we previously heard, it’ll be a somewhat darker take on the John Williams theme, so maybe it’s “The World Need Superman” or “Anti-Hero’s Theme.” Either way, it’s impossible to overlook “Mother Russia,” especially with all those Red Son rumors flying around.

Justice League opens in theaters on November 17. As for the soundtrack, that’ll be available digitally on November 10, with a two-CD edition arriving on December 8. Beyond that, a vinyl release is scheduled for February 9, 2018.
