Their Oscar winning score for The Social Network has placed Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross as two of the most exciting, up and coming composers in the film world. Despite both being established musicians in their own right, their style of music perfectly blends into film worlds crafted by David Fincher. After their success with working for Fincher on The Social Network, it was no surprise that they would be there to work on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and now Sony have released the first bite of the soundtrack for the film.
The official website launched yesterday and if you stay on long enough, the droning, hypnotic and very creepy music kicks in. The tone of the music is just right for the material, matching perfectly with the underlying seediness inherent in Larsson’s novel and what will undoubtedly be present in Fincher’s adaptation.
The novel and the original film has some very disturbing elements, and according to star Daniel Craig, they won’t be pulling punches. Don’t be surprised if the film causes controversy for its violence and scenes of sexual violence against women.
Ross and Reznor are taking a different tack on this than they did with the more vibrant music for The Social Network, deliberately choosing more brooding and chilling tones.
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo will be released on December 21st.
