Daredevil Showrunner Wants To Do A Kingpin Miniseries

Wilson Fisk is returning to Hell's Kitchen. Not that anyone had any doubt, mind you, but earlier this week, Deadline confirmed that Vincent D’Onofrio will reprise the role of Kingpin in Daredevil season 3, with Erik Oleson taking over as showrunner. The latter will now pick up the torch from Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez, who graduated to The Defenders - for the record, only Ramirez saw Marvel and Netflix's team-up series through to the finish line, after Petrie bowed out early on.

Wilson Fisk is returning to Hell’s Kitchen. Not that anyone had any doubt, mind you, but earlier this week, Deadline confirmed that Vincent D’Onofrio will reprise the role of Kingpin in Daredevil season 3, with Erik Oleson taking over as showrunner. The latter will now pick up the torch from Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez, who graduated to The Defenders – for the record, only Ramirez saw Marvel and Netflix’s team-up series through to the finish line, after Petrie bowed out early on.

Rumors of a potential return for D’Onofrio’s villain have gripped the Internet ever since the tail-end of Daredevil season 2. Indeed, once Marvel debunked those reports that initially linked the actor with an appearance in The Defenders, where he arguably would have stolen the thunder from Sigourney Weaver’s Alexandra, Netflix subscribers quickly came to the conclusion that Kingpin was being held until Daredevil‘s third season. Heck, D’Onofrio even recently telegraphed his return via Twitter, so this isn’t much of a surprise.

What is surprising, though, is that previous showrunner, Steven S. DeKnight, is interested in doing a miniseries featuring the character. Taking to Twitter, he said he’d love to do a six episode stint that adapts the “Return of the King” arc from the comics, with D’Onofrio front and centre. Granted, that’s hardly a confirmation that something like this is even a remote possibility, but the interest is definitely there, which is very exciting.

For those unfamiliar, “Return of the King” is a Daredevil storyline that saw The Hand kill the woman Fisk loves, and her kids. That tragic act brought Fisk back to America from his place of exile, to team up with his nemesis Daredevil to get revenge on The Hand.” It’d make for some pretty compelling television, if you ask us, and we’ve love to see this happen.

Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves, though. For now, we can all look forward to the Man Without Fear’s third season, which will be adapting Frank Miller’s famous “Born Again” comic. Still no word on a release date, but we’ll be sure to bring you more when we have it.
