Marvel All Female Movie

Scarlett Johansson And Zoe Saldana Also Game For All-Female Marvel Movie

Even if Thor: Ragnarok fails to openly address Valkyrie's sexuality, Tessa Thompson still has the honor of playing the first LGBT character to feature in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But in the name of equality, it appears as if the Creed breakout wants to go one step further and headline an all-female Marvel movie alongside some of the MCU's leading ladies.

News of Thompson’s proposal first surfaced earlier this month, when the actress merely confirmed that she had pitched her idea to Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios.

Fast forward to now, and on the eve of Ragnarok‘s theatrical launch in North America, Tessa Thomspon has elaborated on that tantalizing pitch, which seemingly has the backing of Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Karen Gillan (Nebula), and Pom Klementieff (Mantis). Heck, Brie Larson is even fond of the idea, though she won’t make her MCU debut until the release of Captain Marvel in 2019.

I think in that group was Brie Larson, myself, Zoe Saldana, although she ran off to the bathroom, I think, so she came midway through the pitch but she had been in the rev-up to it. Scarlett Johansson. Pom [Klementieff] and Karen [Gillan], who are both in the Guardians movies. Yeah, I think it was that group. We were just sort of all in a semi-circle talking, and it just came up, because none of us really worked together – well, I suppose Zoe, and Karen, and Pom – and wouldn’t it be nice if we could all work together? And we were sort of speculating on they ways in which it might happen in Infinity War, or might not happen. And we thought, ‘No, we should just have a whole movie where we know every day we’re going to arrive and get to work together.’ So we just ran right up to Kevin Feige and started talking about it.

On paper, it’s an enticing proposal. Plus, we’re pleased to report that Thompson and Co. are pushing for a full-blown spinoff, rather than a loose story arc that’s shoehorned into Avengers: Infinity War to fill a quota.

As for how the pitch fared, Thompson remained coy, and only praised Kevin Feige for his willingness to collaborate:

That’s the thing that’s so fantastic about Kevin is you always get general interest from him. At least when you start speaking, and then you might get 10 minutes in, and you sense that maybe something is not as exciting. But no, he’s really open to collaboration and wants to hear what we’re interested in.

But what do you make of this? Wishful thinking? Or a genuinely compelling proposal from Tessa Thompson and the MCU’s leading ladies? You can, as always, drop your thoughts below. Thor: Ragnarok, meanwhile, is due to hit US theaters on Friday, November 3rd.
