The Russo Brothers Vow To Include A Lot Of “Unexpected Characters” In Avengers: Infinity War

Writer-director Joe Russo has told CNET that Avengers: Infinity War is chock-full of surprises and unexpected characters.

When it comes to Avengers: Infinity War, it’s best to expect the unexpected.

Marvel’s super-sized crossover is said to be unlike any other superhero movie before it, while Mark Ruffalo (Thor: Ragnarok) recently went on record to claim that Infinity War has what it takes to become a “funny, moving” epic. High praise indeed from an actor who already has two Avengers credits to his name.

But if there’s one element of Avengers: Infinity War that continues to fuel debate online, it’s the character roster. Beyond the MCU stalwarts (see: Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow), Joe and Anthony Russo have been understandably coy when it comes to the official Infinity War cast list. And though that’s still the case, when CNET sat down with the filmmaking duo to discuss Marvel’s forthcoming ensemble piece, Joe Russo assured fans that there will be plenty of “unexpected characters” to look forward to.

Avengers: Infinity War is also packed to the seams with “surprises” – more than any other Marvel movie before it, apparently – so it’s small wonder why Joe and Anthony Russo’s tentpole has emerged as one of the most-anticipated movies of 2018.

Per CNET:

There’s going to be a lot of unexpected characters. There are more surprises packed into this film than any of the others. Part of that is character interactions, new interesting characters, characters that have made small appearances that are really getting fleshed out in this film. A lot of people enjoy the experience, so I don’t want to give anything away, but certainly you can expect lots of surprises.

Once Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther enjoy their time in the limelight, Marvel will roll out Avengers: Infinity War on May 4th, 2018, and the MCU will never be the same again. It’ll be followed by the so-far untitled Avengers 4 on May 3rd, 2019.
