Ragnarok Director Taika Waititi Wants Thor 4 To Kick Off With A Jurassic Park Reunion

Should the opportunity arise, Ragnarok director Taika Waititi has revealed his idea for Thor 4's opening scene (spoilers: it involves Laura Dern).

From Hunt For the Wilderpeople to What We Do in the Shadows, Taika Waititi is known and loved for his tongue-in-cheek humor, but with Thor: Ragnarok, things got meta.

Leading up to the film’s arrival, we learned that Waititi had welcomed a raft of A-list actors for what would become an Asgardian stage play starring Luke Hemsworth (Thor), Matt Damon (Loki), and Sam Neill as the all-wise, all-powerful Odin. It’s a fun and refreshing spin on the ol’ Marvel cameo, and there’s even been hushed rumors that Matt Damon could return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe at some point in the future.

Stick a pin in that one for now, though as Taika Waititi has detailed his incredible pitch for the opening scene of Thor 4. Should the opportunity arise (and we’re inclined to believe it will), Waititi has said before that he wouldn’t think twice about helming another film centering on the God of Thunder, and as the New Zealand filmmaker told Cinema Blend, he’d kick off his Ragnarok follow-up with a Jurassic Park reunion.

That’s right, Laura Dern, star of next month’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, is name-dropped within Waititi’s pitch, which would presumably see her play Hela, much to the delight of the Asgardian crowds. Not only that, but this potential prologue would open up the door for Matt Damon to return – ditto for Luke Hemsworth and Sam Neill – just as Kevin Feige teased.

Via Cinema Blend:

It would be awesome if we somehow got Laura Dern in there, as well. Thor 4, exactly. All of them go back and do the play again. It’s a new play about Asgard’s destruction. That might be a great way to start that film.

Since Thor: Ragnarok opened on November 3rd, the Marvel threequel has cleared $500 million worldwide, which is no mean feat when you consider that the Thor series was always considered to be the underdog of the MCU. More on the God of Thunder’s future when we have it.
