Early Reactions Hail Justice League As A “Blast From Start To Finish,” But It’s Not Without Its Flaws

Ahead of the review embargo lifting next week, a number of critics have posted their preliminary verdict of Zack Snyder's Justice League.

Justice League is a flawed, but fun superhero epic.

At least, that’s according to the first reactions that are now beginning to flood the interwebs – expect the official review embargo to lift at 11:50 pm PST on Tuesday, November 14th – which hail the Zack Snyder ensemble piece as a “spectacular, action-packed” romp.

It’s not without its faults, though; some critics caution that Justice League‘s CGI isn’t up to snuff, while the story of five costumed crusaders – six, if we’re counting the Man of Steel – battling Steppenwolf is “lacking” in parts. It’s got heart, though, and Snyder and Co. have seemingly done a good enough job with the core characters that’ll you be asking for more once the screen fades to black. Also, make sure you hang around afterwards, as Collider’s Steven Weintraub was full of praise for an Aquaman post-credits scene.

That’s not all that surprising, either; James Wan’s standalone pic will be the next film to join the ever-evolving DC Extended Universe, so it’s only fitting that Justice League leaves viewers with a taste of Arthur Curry (and Atlantis, perhaps?) in anticipation of Aquaman‘s release in 2018.

But before we get too far ahead of ourselves, here’s a small sample of those reactions. All in all, it’s a mixed bag; for every review praising the team’s dynamic, you’ll find one that criticizes Justice League for its ham-fisted story.

So, there you have it; solid, but not spectacular reviews for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which is a notable improvement on both Batman V Superman and Suicide Squad. It may not reach the dizzying heights of Wonder Woman ($821 million and the highest-rated superhero movie of all-time, according to Rotten Tomatoes), but DC fans can feel safe in the knowledge that Snyder (and Whedon!) have delivered on the film’s sky-high expectations.
