Avengers: Infinity War is without a doubt one of the most highly-anticipated movies of the decade, so it’s no surprise that Marvel Studios pulled out all the stops to prevent any aspects of the production from leaking out. This even extended to keeping the humongous cast in the dark, as the actors only received the portions of the script that were relevant to them.
While attending a panel at Rhode Island Comic-Con this past weekend, Sebastian Stan – who plays Bucky Barnes AKA Winter Soldier – explained how he got around this handicap. According to him, he and his co-stars know their characters so well by now they can almost guess the redacted parts of the script.
“It’s not something you always deal with. I feel like you always kind of have a script. But I guess, what I would say is, because we’ve done these characters for a bit now, there’s a little bit of a telepathic kind of knowledge between us and the writers. And you kind of can sometimes guess where they’re going to take it, a little bit.”
However, Stan did admit that his particular erratic filming schedule meant it was sometimes difficult to keep up the momentum of his performance and for him to piece together the story.
“For example, this one was really hard, because we keep going in and out. I go back there for a week, and then I leave for a month. And then I go back there for a few more days. So it’s a little bit out of sync. But it still hopefully adds up in the end.”
While there are drawbacks to withholding information from the cast, then, Marvel is probably right to take this precaution. Hilariously, certain stars have proven that they can’t be trusted with a secret. Spider-Man’s Tom Holland has previously admitted that he always puts his foot in it by saying the wrong thing and recently, Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) accidentally livestreamed the first ten minutes of Thor: Ragnarok online.
Hopefully, it’ll prove to be worth all the secrecy when Avengers: Infinity War finally hits cinemas on May 4, 2018.
