Star Wars: The Last Jedi Motion Poster Signals The End Of The Jedi

A newly-released motion poster for Star Wars: The Last Jedi places Luke Skywalker front and center, who has some deep-seated views on the Jedi.

“It’s time for the Jedi…to end.”

As far as one-liners go, few have sparked the same level of excitement and trepidation as Luke Skywalker’s ominous words that concluded the initial teaser for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

That’s not to say we didn’t see it coming – it’s literally implied in the sequel’s title – but the mere thought that the Jedi Order, guardians of peace and prosperity within Lucasfilm’s far-away galaxy, is about to unravel almost doesn’t bear thinking about. There’s more to The Last Jedi than meets the eye, of course, but it’s fair to say that Lucasfilm has done a stand-up job of generating interest in what is essentially the eighth instalment in a long, meandering space opera.

Adding to that hype today is an all-new motion poster featuring Mark Hamill as the wayward Luke Skywalker. Embedded above, it includes an overly familiar shot of Luke aboard Ahch-To – believed to be the site of the first Jedi Temple – as he stares off into the distance. At an uninvited guest, perhaps?

In case you missed it, this past weekend Lucasfilm also premiered a Finn-centric TV spot, which showed our former Stormtrooper being nursed back to recovery. There’s a crucial mission at hand, it seems, and it’ll purportedly ship our hero off to the sumptuous city of Canto Bight.

It’s an incredibly exciting time in the wider Star Wars universe, too, what with Solo: A Star Wars Story and the untitled Episode IX also incubating in development. And that’s before you even consider the newly-announced trilogy coming from Rian Johnson, who has clearly impressed Kathleen Kennedy and the Powers That Be over at Lucasfilm with his work on The Last Jedi.

And we’ll be able to see what all the fuss is about on December 15th.
