A Brooding Luke Skywalker Looms Over The Latest IMAX Poster For Star Wars: The Last Jedi

With little over a month to go until release, Lucasfilm has dropped the latest IMAX poster for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. And it's a crimson delight.

When you look past all of the online speculation and half-baked fan theories, Lucasfilm has been adopting a less-is-more approach when it comes to promoting Star Wars: The Last Jedi – so far, at least – in an effort to keep the sequel’s twists and turns under lock and key.

Up until now, that strategy has worked like a charm, and so long as Lucasfilm keeps the valve sealed – barring the odd TV spot and action pic – we imagine the Star Wars community will be left guessing right up until December 15th. And that’s very much still the case after today’s all-new IMAX poster.

Embedded below, the crimson one-sheet is essentially a rearranged version of the previous IMAX poster for Star Wars: The Last Jedi – for the record, the international poster actually placed Rey over the entire cast (human and otherwise), much to the amusement of Mark Hamill. This time around, it is Hamill’s brooding Luke Skywalker who reigns supreme, while Rey can be seen sporting a beautiful, blood-red cloak.

It’s all very similar to the crimson Praetorian Guards populating Snoke’s super-secret throne room, which is seemingly located on the First Order’s Mega Star Destroyer. Also of note, Kylo Ren is clinging on to his iconic mask, despite rumors that Adam Driver’s budding sith would ditch the helmet altogether. If true, it would certainly allow Rian Johnson to linger on Kylo’s gruesome facial scar that he sustained during his lightsaber battle with Rey. And finally, there’s also some room on The Last Jedi‘s new poster to highlight the sequel’s three biggest droids: BB-8, C-3PO and ol’ Artoo.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is now only a month out from D-day, and we can hardly wait. Rian Johnson’s sci-fi sequel will naturally look best on the IMAX screen, as the director called upon the large-screen format when filming a number of The Last Jedi‘s key scenes – not unlike how J.J. Abrams incorporated IMAX into the intense Millennium Falcon sequence that took place on Jakku.
