While it’s probably safe to say that we’re all unbelievably pumped for this weekend’s release of the Justice League movie, it’s interesting to note that some other DC trivia is being brought to light that’s entirely separate from the big team-up flick. Sure, it came to us via the usual press rounds that Ben Affleck must make, but this factoid is something that we won’t soon forget.
When appearing on a recent episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, the current actor having the privilege of playing Batman somehow got on the topic of what life was like for him and his longtime friend/colleague Matt Damon much earlier in their careers. Having started off in the industry when they were essentially kids, it’s understandable that they have many unforgettable experiences to share.
One such example that Batfans will find intriguing is that they both read for the part of Robin in Tim Burton’s Batman! Sure, you’ll probably say to us, “Robin wasn’t in that movie,” and, technically, you’d be right, but the original plan was to include an origin story for the Boy Wonder. In fact, the full storyboard sequence can be found on the DVD and Blu-ray releases, complete with voiceovers by Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill as Batman and the Joker, respectively.
Here’s what Affleck had to say about what never came to be:
“We were both pretty sure we got the part. I wish to God he had gotten that part.”
To be honest, we’re quite happy this never panned out, or history would’ve never led to Affleck playing Batman himself. Sure, he may have been Daredevil at one point, but there’s no way the studio would’ve ever cast a former Robin as the Dark Knight.
