Tywin Actor Charles Dance Would Consider Game Of Thrones Spinoff Series

Providing the story treatments are up to snuff, Charles Dance would consider reprising his role as Tywin Lannister for a Game of Thrones spinoff.

Legendary British actor, writer and film director Charles Dance would love to appear in HBO’s planned Game of Thrones spinoff series, providing the story is up to scratch.

For four whole seasons, the actor ruled over Westeros as power-mongering patriarch Tywin Lannister, who was later killed by his own son, Tyrion (Peter Dinklage), while on the loo. But Charles Dance left a fairly big hole on HBO’s fantasy flagship, and it’s fair to say that viewers still miss his nuanced performances – for years, Tywin was the undisputed powerhouse of House Lannister, which hasn’t really been the same since his untimely death.

And though it’s unlikely given that HBO’s successor series are expected to explore different eras, Dance told Metro (via Cinema Blend) that he’d be game for a return trip to Westeros, should the stars align.

If it was in the same calibre, yes. Because Game of Thrones really was as good as it gets. It’s a fantastic series. I look back on it fondly. Occasionally you have long days in the cold, the horse doesn’t behave properly, or the armour sticks in the back of your neck, but we’re not down in the mines digging for coal, we’re actors.

It’s a pretty big if, mind you; at 71 years of age, Charles Dance isn’t getting any younger, which may reduce his potential cameo to flashback scenes – providing HBO doesn’t call upon a de-aging visual trick to roll back the years.

If Max Borenstein (Godzilla: King of the Monsters), Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Golden Circle) and the other writers on board manage to work Tywin into the spinoff story organically, then we’re all ears, but perhaps it’s best to leave the Warden of the West as is.

Following in the footsteps of Westworld season 2, Game of Thrones returns for its eighth and final season in 2019, meaning the first successor series ought to be live by 2020.
