After Terminator: Genisys stunk to high heaven, it looked like the iconic sci-fi franchise might finally be over. However, we should have remembered the T-800’s immortal words, as Arnold Schwarzenegger’s robot assassin will be back once again in the upcoming Terminator 6. Previously, original director James Cameron made clear that the new film would distance itself from the past three installments in the series by only acting as a sequel to T2: Judgement Day. Linda Hamilton will even reprise her role as Sarah Connor for the first time since the 1991 sequel.
On top of that, Variety is reporting that the project has just hired a new screenwriter in Captain Phillips scribe Billy Ray. Apparently handpicked by Cameron and Tim Miller, who’s set to direct, Ray will base his script off a story treatment by Cameron, Miller and David Ellison, the founder of Skydance Productions (the current producers of the Terminator franchise). Hopefully the minds behind the project can pull together something a whole lot better than not only Genisys, but Terminator: Salvation and Terminator: Rise of the Machines as well.
Thanks to The Tracking Board’s Jeff Sneider, we’ve also learned some new story details. Terminator 6 will reportedly be at least partially set in Mexico City, with an “18-year-old Mexican actress” currently being sought after to play Dani Ramos, who’s expected to be the film’s young female lead.
The search is also on for a Latin actor with a fight/stunt background to play the villain. It doesn’t take a genius to imagine that this new antagonist will be another Terminator. Plus, it’s likely that Dani Ramos will be the new Sarah Connor character, presumably carrying future movies. If the film’s a success, that is.
Terminator 6Â is set to go before the camera in March 2018, so it won’t be long now before more info comes our way about this intriguing new addition to the franchise. As always, stay tuned for further updates.
