It’s hard to believe it, but we’re now less than one month away from Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and anticipation is starting to reach a fever pitch. The next chapter of the Skywalker saga is due to blast into theaters on December 15th and in the past few weeks, Lucasfilm has really begun to crank up the promotional campaign. From TV spots to trailers and everything in between, it seems you can’t go more than a few days without getting something new from the pic and this weekend, that continues.
Seen in the gallery below are four, brand new covers that Entertainment Weekly debuted, featuring several characters from The Last Jedi. We’ve got Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) on one, while another features Luke (Mark Hamill) and Leia (Carrie Fisher). As for the other two, there’s Finn (John Boyega) and franchise newcomer Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran), who we know will embark on an exciting mission together, and finally, the last one shows us Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) alongside another new face, Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo (Laura Dern).
Of course, there’s nothing in the way of spoilers or plot details here, but given that Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the focus of Entertainment Weekly’s next issue, you can be sure that some new info will begin to surface over the next few days as readers get their hands on the mag and dig into its latest cover story. For now, though, the beautiful shots up above will do and if we had to guess, the one that’s sure to spark the most conversation is the one featuring Rey and Kylo.
Speaking about the latter’s importance in the franchise recently, Johnson said the following:
It’s not like Kylo is our Vader. In the original trilogy, Vader is the father — he’s the one you’re afraid of and who you want the approval of. Whereas Kylo represents anger and rebellion, the sometimes healthy — and sometimes not — desire to disconnect from the parents. It’s my favorite kind of quote-unquote bad guy, because you can genuinely see what their weakness is.
Expect that dynamic to unfold next month when Star Wars: The Last Jedi lights up theaters the world over. It’ll then be followed by the conclusive Episode IX in 2019, so don’t expect to bear witness to all the answers on December 15th.
