And where previous promos have delegated screen time between Leia, Finn, Poe, BB-8 and their sworn adversaries, Kylo Ren and Supreme Leader Snoke, this all-new stinger places the focus squarely on Luke Skywalker and Rey. The master and the apprentice, if you will.

Housed up on Ahch-To following The Force Awakens – word is Rian Johnson’s imminent sequel picks up mere moments after Rey reached out to return Luke’s lightsaber to its rightful owner – here we see Luke and Rey meditating, presumably on the site of the first Jedi Temple. From there, we hear Daisy Ridley’s Jedi-in-training recount the nuances of “the balance,” with Luke essentially drawing a line between the dark side and the light. But just as The Last Jedi‘s latest promo begins to reach its climax, we hear Rey’s voice break as she alludes to “something else.”

Cue the close-up of Supreme Leader Snoke and Kylo Ren’s outstretched hand, as Luke desperately pleads with Rey to “resist” the oncoming and deeply mysterious force. If nothing else, it’ll certainly fuel speculation that Daisy Ridley’s protagonist will be tempted by the dark side come December, as Snoke and the First Order continue to exert their grip on that galaxy far, far away.

Either that, or Rey is purposely opening herself up to Snoke so that she can infiltrate the First Order from within. That’s just one of many unconfirmed story morsels currently doing the rounds online, so until we have some firm details on Star Wars: The Last Jedi to peruse, file Rey’s alleged moral conundrum in the rumor cabinet.

One thing’s for sure: Episode VIII will be the longest film in the series when Rian Johnson’s starry epic opens on December 15th.
