Avengers 4: Spidey And Captain Marvel Both Confirmed For Marvel’s Untitled Sequel

As the Avengers 4 roll call continues to stir up debate, it's now been confirmed (again!) that Captain Marvel and Spider-Man will appear in the 2019 sequel.

If there’s one thing we learned from Vanity Fair’s celebratory cover shoot, it’s that the roll call for Avengers: Infinity War and its untitled sequel really is the stuff dreams are made of.

From Iron Man to Cap, Black Widow to Star-Lord, the Russo Brothers are currently juggling some of the biggest names in comics, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the directing duo can’t have some fun along the way. And though many had assumed that most, if not all of the Infinity War cast members will be returning in time for Avengers 4, now we’re not so sure.

Thanos and his so-called Black Order are a force to be reckoned with, so we can only assume that there will be some casualties in Avengers: Infinity War that will have a knock-on effect on the roster of characters available for Avengers 4. No one lives forever – not even superheroes.

That ‘kill count’ will fuel speculation for weeks – nay, months – to come, but thanks to Scarlett Johansson, we now know for sure that Captain Marvel will have a role to play in Avengers 4. Granted, it was all but confirmed that Brie Larson’s MCU newcomer would make an appearance opposite Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, but now it’s officially official:

We have Brie Larson on this film. She’s here before shooting the standalone Captain Marvel movie so we get to watch her get her feet wet for real. She’s so great, but a really cute thing happened the other day where Hulk is standing next to her and Joe Russo told her to put her hand in front of Mark [Ruffalo]’s face to stop him, and she’s like, “In front of his face?” And they explained, “that’s where his chest is,” and she looks up and yells, “I’m new! I’m new!” I’m like, “damn, girl.” It’s very surreal for me to watch these new cast members come in and get their feet wet and breath new life into these characters who are so iconic. I feel a lot of joy for the next generation. It’s a bittersweet feeling but overall it’s a positive one. I feel good about the work we’ve done and the work I’ve done.

You can go ahead and add Spider-Man’s name to the docket, too, given Chris Hemsworth also told Vanity Fair that Tom Holland’s wall-crawler will be swinging into action come 2019.

I’ve been hugely impressed by Tom Holland and the way he’s handled the transition. I didn’t look that comfortable on my first three films. Literally, this is my sixth film and I’m finally feeling like I may be allowed to stick around and stay here. He just came in and had such an ease to his performance.

Beyond Infinity War and its inaugural teaser trailer (check back to WGTC tomorrow!), Marvel Studios will batten down the hatches in preparation for Avengers 4. It’s currently penciled in for release on May 3rd, 2019, so there’s still plenty of time for Kevin Feige and Co. to drum up excitement for what they consider to be the “finale” of Phase Three.
