It’s been a huge couple of weeks for Chris Pratt.
Coming hot off the show-stopping first teaser for Avengers: Infinity War, the Powers That Be over at Universal have now unleashed Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom‘s official trailer, and it steers the legendary franchise toward uncharted territory.
Headed up by Juan Antonio Bayona (A Monster Calls), who took control of the Jurassic World series in lieu of Colin Trevorrow – Trevorrow initially made tracks for Star Wars: Episode IX, but Lucasfilm ultimately chose J.J. Abrams for the gig – Fallen Kingdom has always been described as a scarier and darker spin on the tried-and-tested formula, which isn’t all that surprising given it’s coming from the man who brought us The Orphanage.
More than a decade has passed since Bayona’s big break, though, and now the Spanish filmmaker is primed to enter into Hollywood’s blockbuster scene with Fallen Kingdom. Which, from the looks of this first trailer, is going to be a tremendously fun sequel packed full of exciting dino action and what appear to be a few genuinely scary moments.
Behind the lens, the pic has a script from Derek Connolly and Colin Trevorrow, while previous story clues have pointed to an arc involving themes of animal rights and a whole new wave of genetically modified dinosaurs, as InGen’s precious formula goes open source. Those man-made monsters would surely dwarf the Indominus Rex, so it’ll be fascinating to see how Universal’s special effects gurus handle such a mighty task.
Pitched as the second entry into the studio’s rebooted trilogy, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom makes a beeline for theaters on June 22nd, 2018. True to the initial reports, this first-look teaser will likely play in front of The Last Jedi in a few weeks’ time – ditto for Infinity War – so like we said, it’s been a terrific couple of weeks for Chris Pratt.
