Released alongside this morning’s awesome teaser trailer, Infinity War‘s logline begins by ramping up the stakes, as Iron Man and the gang gear up for the “ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time.”

They’ve fought amongst each other (see: Civil War) and even managed to save the world (twice!), but come 2018, the Avengers will cross paths with Thanos, a power-mongering being of immense power. With the Infinity Gauntlet in one hand and a loathing for costumed crusaders in the other, Josh Brolin’s Mad Titan descends upon Earth in search of the six Infinity Stones. What follows is a race against time as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes go up against Thanos and so-called Black Order to prevent a “blitz of destruction.” Yikes!

An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

Anthony and Joe Russo direct the film, which is produced by Kevin Feige. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee are the executive producers. Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely wrote the screenplay. “Avengers: Infinity War” releases in U.S. theaters on May 4, 2018.

Talk about stoking excitement. Mind you, if you’re still reeling from this morning’s reveal, we’ll kindly point you in the direction of Collider’s screengrabs, which are designed to offer a play-by-play breakdown of Infinity War‘s inaugural teaser and all of its many talking points.

From a bearded Cap (Nomad?) to Blonde Widow and everything in between, Marvel’s latest (and greatest?) trailer will be analyzed for weeks to come, and we’ll be keeping a close eye on the film’s progression right here on WGTC.

On May 4th, 2018, Marvel and the Russo Brothers will unleash Avengers: Infinity War, and the MCU will never be the same again. Word is the Powers That Be have mapped out preliminary plans for another 20 – that’s right, 20 – movies beyond 2018, so there’s still hope for that all-female spinoff yet.
