Here’s How Thor Gets Mjolnir Back In Avengers: Infinity War

Cast your minds back to, well, earlier this month and you'll remember that Thor: Ragnarok saw the God of Thunder's trusty hammer Mjolnir destroyed by his evil sister Hela. The odd thing is, though, promo images for Avengers: Infinity War have shown the Son of Odin armed with his favourite accessory once again. But how's this possible?

Well, thanks to some descriptions of upcoming LEGO tie-in sets, we have a breakdown of Thor’s journey in Infinity War which reveals just how Mjolnir returns. You can read the full thing by following the link at the bottom of the page, or you can check out the key points below, thanks to a summary from ComicBook.com. Be warned, though, it does discuss plot details from the upcoming movie.

  • After being defeated by Thanos as he takes the Space Infinity Stone from Loki’s Tesseract, Thor tumbles through space, eventually smacking into the Guardians of the Galaxy’s ship.
  • Thor and at least some of the Guardians (Rocket and Groot) travel to the realm of Nidavellir, home of the dwarf blacksmiths, where Mjolnir was created.
  • After encountering some resistance, Thor and Co. must power and use the “space forge” to create a new weapon for Thor.

We’ve already seen some footage that corroborates this breakdown, as the leaked Infinity War presentation released at San Diego Comic-Con featured a fun moment where Thor slams into the Milano’s view-screen. The recent trailer also sees Thor engaging in a mammoth feat of strength as he fights to get some alien machinery working. Presumably, this is the “space forge” mentioned above.

What’s more, the LEGO set description also reveals that Thor will pick up another weapon while he’s there, something described as “the ax-thunderbolt.” This is likely a reference to Jarnbjorn, the God’s mythical ax. We also know what the movie’s version of the weapon will look like, thanks to the concept art below.

You can catch Thor and his new pals, the Guardians of the Galaxy, when they team up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: Infinity War, arriving in cinemas on May 4th, 2018.
