Armie Hammer Isn’t Really A Fan Of Modern Superhero Movies

If there's one actor who pops up on more superhero fan castings than any other, it's Armie Hammer. Most infamously, fans got it in their heads that the star would be appearing in Justice League as Hal Jordan AKA Green Lantern, even though Hammer repeatedly denied the claims. He was also rumoured to play Shazam, after he got a recommendation from Black Adam himself, Dwayne Johnson.

As it turns out, though, fans might have been barking up the wrong tree all this time, as it seems that Armie Hammer isn’t even a particular admirer of modern superhero movies. In fact, while taking part in the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, he admitted that he hasn’t seen a comic book film in a long time that’s got him particularly excited.

“I’m trying to answer in a way that’s not going to get me into trouble,” Hammer said and offered that he is not signed on to any comic book flicks. “Alright, f-ck it, might as well go for it. I haven’t seen a superhero movie in a long time where I thought, ‘f-ck, I wish I was in that.'”

“For me there’s not like a huge rush. Would I love to own a huge house? Yes, for sure. But at the end of the day, I’m more interested now in my artistic credibility and doing the projects that satiate me as an artist and make me feel like I’m doing what I love…”

It’s clear that Hammer isn’t exactly, er, hammering DC’s door down to get a job, then. In fact, the actor makes it clear that the biggest reason he would take a superhero role is because of the fat pay cheque that comes with the colourful costume. He did admit, though, that he would be tempted if a talented filmmaker was to recruit him.

“Look if a great director came around and said ‘I have this idea’… but at the end of the day, no one’s asked, and I’m not going out of my way to do it,

Of course, if things had turned out differently, Hammer might be singing a different tune. The actor was originally set to play Batman in George Miller’s Justice League: Mortal back in 2007. However, the production was ultimately scrapped. Who knows, though? If Mortal had gone ahead and found success, Armie Hammer could have been one of the faces of modern superhero movies himself.
