During his recent appearance on Good Morning America, series mainstay Mark Hamill talked at length about Lucasfilm’s crown jewel – from the wayward Luke Skywalker to Carrie Fisher’s final moments, Hamill’s interview is a must-watch for Star Wars supporters – and it wasn’t long before the conversation veered toward The Last Jedi‘s story.

With only two weeks left to go, Mark Hamill was understandably coy about what Rian Johnson and Co. have in store – he has spent the entire summer trumpeting the ‘Wait for VIII‘ hashtag – but he did confirm the sequel’s most important line, which left him “stunned” during the early script process.

In fact, the most important line, I think, Luke says, is, ‘This is not going to go the way you think.’ When I read the script, I was stunned.

On a more general note, the fan-favorite actor also spoke a little about the Star Wars legacy, and how young filmmakers (see: Rian Johnson, J.J. Abrams) are coming in to work on a franchise that they essentially grew up on. That trend will continue far beyond the release of Episode IX, too, after Lucasfilm ordered a brand new trilogy with Johnson at the helm.

Per GMA:

These films are now being made by people that were children when the first films came out. They’re the generation that grew up as fans and are now in control of the franchise. It’s just so wonderful to be associated with something that makes people so happy.

And following his silent cameo – a silent cameo that Hamill described as the “most elaborate entrance of his career” – we can’t wait to see Luke Skywalker return to the fray in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Perhaps he’ll even wield a lightsaber for old times’ sake? We’ll find out on December 15th.
