Daisy Ridley Clarifies Those Reports About Leaving Star Wars After Episode IX

Turns out Daisy Ridley is open to the possibility of extending her spell in the Star Wars saga, after reports suggested Episode IX would be her swan song.

Daisy Ridley’s time in the Star Wars saga isn’t over – not yet, at least.

The actress is only two weeks away from welcoming the launch of The Last Jedi, in which she reprises her breakout role (Rey). Beyond that, there’s also the small matter of Episode IX – you know, providing Ridley’s Force-sensitive hero lives to tell the tale – the third and conclusive chapter in Lucasfilm’s currently trilogy.

In a strange twist of fate, it’ll be directed by J.J. Abrams, who will go full circle in December of 2019 and close out the story he began through The Force Awakens. And after that? Well, we know Lucasfilm has drawn up plans for a brand new trilogy from Rian Johnson (The Last Jedi), which will undoubtedly offer up the closest thing to a blank canvas since George Lucas launched a billion-dollar empire (no, not that Empire) with A New Hope in ’77.

No limitations will be imposed on Johnson, story or otherwise, which is music to our ears after so long spent in the Skywalker saga. And though it seemed that Daisy Ridley was prepared to leave the Star Wars franchise after Episode IX, the British actress has now clarified those comments in a new interview with the BBC.

When I did sign up, I did sign up for three films and that’s where I sort of saw the story ending. I think everyone has perhaps taken that as me going, ‘I don’t want anything to do with it’ which is vastly untrue because this is awesome.

That doesn’t necessarily confirm Rey’s place in the fourth Star Wars trilogy, merely that Daisy Ridley is open to the possibility. Chances are Rian Johnson and his team will want to branch off from the core saga though, so we can’t imagine they’ll want to include too many familiar faces as they set about carving out their own corner of Lucasfilm’s far-away galaxy.

And it’s one we’ll be returning to on December 15th, thanks to the arrival of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It’ll be followed by Solo: A Star Wars Story, the second anthology flick which comes by way of Ron Howard, on May 25th, 2018.
