Another Action Shot For Star Wars: The Last Jedi Emerges As Rian Johnson Reveals The Sequel’s First Spoken Word

Writer-director Rian Johnson has revealed the first spoken word of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, while there's also another action shot to pore over.

We already know the most important line of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but what about the first?

That was a question posed to Rian Johnson, writer and director on Lucasfilm’s imminent sequel, during Saturday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. Flanked by the entire cast – from Andy Serkis (Supreme Leader Snoke) to Daisy Ridley (Rey) and everyone in between, most of The Last Jedi‘s key players were in attendance – the filmmaker revealed that The Last Jedi begins with the word, “we’re,” but stopped short of revealing the context, let alone which character actually utters the word itself.

Based on previous reports, we’re inclined to believe that either Rey or Luke Skywalker will get the ball rolling in two weeks’ time, considering that The Last Jedi is expected to pick up right where things left off in 2015, which is to say that Johnson’s follow-up kicks off on Ahch-To.

As for this intriguing tidbit, Star Wars fans will no doubt continue to draft up weird and wonderful theories from now until December 15th, and in order to keep that momentum ticking over, Lucasfilm has dropped an all-new action shot featuring Rey, Luke and Kylo Ren, the failed student, suited and booted.

Check it out in the gallery below, along with a few previously released ones:

Word is those two characters have more in common than we’ve been led to believe. Both have emerged from troubling childhoods – Rey was abandoned on the sun-scorched plains of Jakku, while Kylo Ren proved to be the unruly offspring of Leia Organa and Han Solo, which only makes the latter’s death all the more tragic – and previous teasers for The Last Jedi have shown Rey and Kylo Ren sharing the same screen.

Perhaps they’ll unite against Supreme Leader Snoke? It’s unlikely, of course, but Rian Johnson has hinted at the possibility of redemption for Adam Driver’s brooding villain.

Chalk that up as conjecture, though, as we won’t know for sure until Star Wars: The Last Jedi bows on December 15th.
