Yes, Fox and Simon Kinberg’s space-faring tentpole is still a long way away (November 2nd), but thanks to Entertainment Weekly’s ongoing coverage, we now have an early peek at what is surely one of the most enticing blockbusters of 2018.

And so, after lifting the curtain on its fiery cover, along with those high-res action shots that brought us closer to Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) and Jessica Chastain’s mystery villain – the Internet is of the belief that Chastain is actually playing the Skrull Queen, not Lilandra Neramani – EW’s attention has now turned to Mystique, the shape-shifting mutant played by series veteran Jennifer Lawrence.

Indeed, the actress also revealed that her blue-skinned trickster has “grown up a lot” since ApocalypseDark Phoenix takes place a full 10 years after Bryan Singer’s forgettable threequel – and is much more maternal when it comes to protecting Charle and his school of mutants. There’s also a new close-up of Mystique’s makeover, which can be found in the gallery below.

Meanwhile, Lawrence touched on the inflated ego of Charles Xavier (James McAvoy), whose delusions of grandeur threaten to tear the X-family apart. This, coupled with Jean Grey’s inevitable transformation into the Phoenix, ensures Simon Kinberg’s X-Men sequel is one to keep an eye on.

Via EW:

She’s grown up a lot. She’s more maternal which surprised me. She starts to get more protective of the [school] children and Charles wants to push them to prove to the world that mutants can be good for humanity and I just see them as small children.

Featuring a 1990s setting and yet another end-of-the-world scenario, X-Men: Dark Phoenix will be with us on November 2nd, 2018.
