Colin Trevorrow Likens Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom To “The Impossible Meets The Orphanage”

Fallen Kingdom's screenwriter has outlined the sequel's influences all the while confirming that the trailer only contains footage from the opening hour.

Bringing an end to a hugely eventful week for Universal, the first official trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom was unleashed during last night’s episode of Thursday Night Football and already, budding analysts are combing through each and every frame to uncover Easter eggs and wild conspiracies that threaten our very existence.

But if you’re worried that Fallen Kingdom‘s first-look teaser openly spoils the 2018 sequel, don’t; Colin Trevorrow has assured fans that the newly-unveiled trailer only contains footage from the opening 57 minutes. That leaves the sequel’s second act shrouded in secrecy, which only has us all the more intrigued about the screenplay that Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly have produced.

We now know that Isla Nublar was built on a long-dormant volcano, leaving Owen Grady and Claire Dearing with little choice but to ferry those magnificent dinosaurs off the island before Fallen Kingdom triggers an extinction-level event. But if Bayona’s sequel kicks off with a volcanic bang, then the second half will seemingly be a more intense ride, after Colin Trevorrow revealed his elevator pitch to those in attendance at CCXP (Comic-Con Experience) in Sao Paulo: It’s “The Impossible meets The Orphanage with dinosaurs.”

Collider also relayed a number of other tidbits relating to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, including Bayona’s Hitchcock-esque directing style and why his dino sequel will “bring the fear” come 2018. There are seemingly “two or three” action set pieces in the movie, too, while earlier reports have indicated that Fallen Kingdom features a massive underwater sequence involving aquatic, prehistoric dinosaurs and InGen submarines. And if that’s not enough to get you on board, we don’t know what will.

Here’s confirmation of that trailer footage, courtesy of Colin Trevorrow:

Angled as the second chapter in Universal’s rebooted trilogy, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom stomps into theaters on June 22nd, 2018.
