The Last Jedi Cast Touch On Carrie Fisher’s Lasting Legacy

The cast of Star Wars: The Last Jedi have shared their fondest memories of the late, great Carrie Fisher, who returns as Leia one last time.

IGN has today unveiled a poignant compilation in which The Last Jedi‘s leading cast members pay tribute to the lasting legacy of Carrie Fisher.

Kicking things off are three key members of the Resistance – namely Daisy Ridley (Rey), John Boyega (Finn) and Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron) – before the outlet switches gears and allows the likes of Adam Driver, Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran to wax lyrical about the “unapologetic” Fisher.

The latter two are fresh-faced newcomers to the Star Wars saga, with Dern primed to take point as Vice Admiral Holdo, a high-ranking official within the Resistance who tends to rub up General Leia the wrong way. Meanwhile, Tran plays Rose, a seasoned mechanic who has been described as the “biggest new part” of Rian Johnson’s imminent sequel. And at least based on The Last Jedi‘s promo material, she’ll be joining Finn on a mission to Canto Bight.

But as for IGN’s newly-unveiled video, Daisy Ridley began with a heartfelt tribute:

From my experience, Carrie didn’t give out advice – she led by example. With the example being a brilliantly intelligent, wonderfully warm person who other people feel at ease and comfortable. And, I think, if you can do that, you’ve already done so much. And she made me feel very welcomed and loved. So that, making other people feel good and included.

Her Falcon co-pilot Finn (John Boyega) echoed that sentiment, stating:

It’s a long shoot, and so there are several different moments. But one thing I can say is that her energy is definitely something that you recognize on set. It’s definitely Carrie. There’s always a joke to be told. There’s always a song to sing.

In closing, Adam Driver (AKA Kylo Ren/Ben Solo) brought the curtain down with a rather poignant message concerning Fisher’s sheer brilliance, and why there simply “aren’t many people like her.”

It’s hard to pick as my absolute favorite. Even from the press tour last time, or shooting The Force Awakens, there are so many I can think of. It’s more who she was as a person, and what she stood for for other people. She was unapologetic. And she was free to be who she was, and there aren’t many people like her.

On Friday, December 15th, Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens big, and when it does, it’ll come packing a fitting tribute to Carrie Fisher, the People’s Princess.
