Does Star Wars: The Last Jedi Hint At A Rey/Poe Romance For Episode IX?

No, it doesn't. Next question. Oh right, these articles are usually a bit longer than that. Right, well certain sites are currently speculating that the closing scenes of Star Wars: The Last Jedi hint at a future romance (Poemance?) between Daisy Ridley's Jedi ingenue Rey and Oscar Isaac's dashing pilot Poe Dameron. Now, the closing scenes do indeed see the two characters cross paths and they certainly look pleased to finally meet one another, but sparks of romance? Nah.

Oh right, these articles are usually a bit longer than that. Right, well certain sites are currently speculating that the closing scenes of Star Wars: The Last Jedi hint at a future romance (Poemance?) between Daisy Ridley’s Jedi ingenue Rey and Oscar Isaac’s dashing pilot Poe Dameron. Now, the closing scenes do indeed see the two characters cross paths and they certainly look pleased to finally meet one another, but sparks of romance? Nah.

I mean, it’s not like it’s impossible that it’s going to happen, but it seems a bit unlikely. I suspect that, now that Finn has an unambiguous romantic interest, shippers are throwing whatever they can at the wall to see what sticks. Honestly though, if Rey is going to bump uglies with anyone in these films it’s far more likely to be Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren – most of The Last Jedi sees them furtively Force-Skyping one another like a couple of horny teenagers (I did particularly like when Rey got hot and bothered at seeing Kylo strutting around topless).

Even if a Poe/Rey romance did happen, it’s difficult to see where it could go. After all, the reason it’s taken them two movies to finally meet is that they’re occupying very different strands of the plot – with Rey’s arc focused on her growing Jedi abilities and her understanding of what the Force is, while Poe’s going through some difficult lessons in military leadership and responsibility.

So yeah, sorry shippers, but I just don’t think this theory has legs. That said, if you really want to check out Rey and Poe’s romantic adventurers, I am dead certain the weird, wonderful and dodgily written world of fan fiction more than has your back.
