Karen Gillan On Her Experience Filming Avengers 4: “It’s So Much Fun”

Chatting to Collider, Karen Gillan has recalled her experience filming Marvel's super-sized (and currently untitled!) sequel, Avengers 4.

With Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle racing into theaters (our review), Karen Gillan has spent the past fortnight fielding all sorts of questions about the Sony reboot, her dynamic with Dwayne Johnson et. al, and unsurprisingly, the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Set to reprise as the conflicted Nebula across both Infinity War and Avengers 4, Gillan has gone on record before about her character’s “daddy issues,” along with that fiery relationship with Gamora (Zoe Saldana). On a more general note, the Scottish actor believes Avengers: Infinity War and its sequel aren’t just films – they’re cinematic events.

And executing that vision required a tremendous amount of legwork on set, as Marvel’s leading producers juggled stacked schedules and multiple time zones in order to bring their stars into alignment. That’s something Karen Gillan addressed while speaking to Collider, too:

I don’t know how chaotic it is. It’s just an extremely long shoot with so many characters. Logistically, it must be a challenge for them to schedule it. I guess that’s where the chaos comes from. But, it’s so much fun. In terms of atmosphere on set, it’s one of the best I’ve ever experienced. Everybody is just having a really good time, at least of what I’ve seen. They’ve set a really nice tone for the environment, so I’m having a good time.

Naturally, the actress refrained from divulging any key plot details, but she did take a moment to celebrate Marvel’s management:

I think I’m most impressed with the producers who organized the whole thing. To get half of the movie stars in the world together, at the same time, I don’t even know how they do it when they all have other projects going on. I’m most impressed by the people that are organizing the thing.

“I will hunt my father like a dog and I will tear him apart piece by piece.” Thanos and his malevolent Black Order will lay siege to Earth on May 4th, 2018, before Avengers 4 tends to unfinished business the following year. It was originally on course to wrap filming before the year’s end, and though the likes of Paul Bettany (Vision) and Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch) have finished in time for Christmas, the Marvel sequel is expected to continue production well into January.
