Avengers: Infinity War Art Gives Us New Look At Iron Man’s Armor, And It Has Swords

If recent promo art for Avengers: Infinity War featured Tony Stark's famous Hulkbuster armor - and two characters from beyond the grave, but more on that later - then this latest batch goes one step further to cast the spotlight on Armor 51, a suit famous for its ties to Riri Williams.

If recent promo art for Avengers: Infinity War featured Tony Stark’s famous Hulkbuster armor – and two characters from beyond the grave – then this latest batch goes one step further to cast the spotlight on Armor 51, a suit famous for its ties to Riri Williams.

As comic book fans know all too well, that sprightly, whip-smart 15-year-old made headlines late last year after Marvel placed her in the driving seat (or should that be high-tech suit?) of Invincible Iron Man, and there’s now evidence to suggest that Infinity War will include the armor known as Model-Prime.

Seen in the gallery below is some new art which comes to us from T-shirts of all things. There’s two in total with one showing off Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet while the other gives us a look at several of the main characters. Notably, it shows us the new appearance that Black Widow will be sporting in the pic, along with the updated armor that Thor, Spidey and Iron Man will don.

Particularly interesting is Tony Stark’s suit, which appears to be the aforementioned Armor 51, complete with what looks like swords. Ok, fine, technically they’re just “standard lasers that can be used as weapons or for welding,” but you’ve gotta admit that they’re pretty damn cool and Iron Man will surely need to be packing some serious heat if he’s to really stand a chance against Thanos across both Infinity War and its untitled sequel.

Per Marvel Comics, and as we alluded to before, Armor 51 is considered to be one of Stark’s crowning achievements. Floored by Riri’s homemade suit, Tony Stark then sets about creating a shape-shifting armor that bends and molds to his every need – hence the wing-like thrusters affixed to the suit’s rear. Assuming Infinity War stays true to the comics, and this promo art is a solid indication of what’s to come, Robert Downey Jr.’s Avenger will also be able to change colors on a whim.

Said to be packed to the rafters with scene-stealing chemistry and “intense surprises,” Avengers: Infinity War is now only about 4 months away, while the fourth, so-far untitled Avengers film will follow it in May of 2019, by which point viewers will be acquainted with Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers and her ’90s-set origin story. March 8th, 2019 is the date for your diaries for that one.
