Not unlike Batman V Superman before it, Justice League is on the verge of becoming a cult classic – among fans, at least.
Zack Snyder’s flawed masterpiece admittedly faltered in the story department, while the less said about Steppenwolf’s CGI, the better. However, by assembling DC’s finest roster of heroes – namely Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, and Flash – Justice League will always be remembered as a defining moment for the DC Extended Universe, despite the fact that Warner’s star-studded epic is expected to fall short of expectations at the box office.
With the film getting ready to finish up its theatrical run now, all eyes are focused on the eventual home video release and more specifically, whether or not it’ll bring about some kind of extended edition. Rumors point to us receiving such a thing, but the official cover art for the Blu-ray has surfaced today and as you can see below, it makes no mention of any alternate version being included on the disc.
Given that Warner Bros. has yet to make an official announcement about this, we can’t say for certain that the art we have here means there will be no extended edition, but it’s certainly not looking too likely at this point. Of course, that’s not to say that we won’t get to see a Director’s Cut or a lengthier version down the road, but for now, it looks like fans will simply have to make do with what was shown in theaters.
As always, we’ll continue to keep you posted as additional updates on the film’s upcoming home video release come to light, but what we can tell you at the moment is that Justice League‘s failure has prompted a major restructuring effort at Warner Bros. Pictures, which is now planning to shake things up at the top end of DC Films. It’s an overhaul that will purportedly take place in January, by which point we may already know the identity of Matt Reeves’ new Batman. Stay tuned for more on that front.
